Pumpkin Patch Kid

On Sunday we went to a local church's pumpkin patch with some friends. Campbell seemed less than impressed with the pumpkins, but Z and I had fun taking pictures and picking out 2 pumpkins- 1 for Campbell and a family pumpkin which we need to carve soon (we had the best of intentions, but I think that the pumpkins are still in his trunk. I haven't seen them since Sunday, so I'm not positive). I think next year C will be more into picking the pumpkins because little A sure was.

Hello Dolly

My mom has a group of ladies that she has been friends with ever since they all worked together in the office of the Dean of Students at UT. I think they've been friends for about 40 years now and they always like to celebrate weddings, children and grandchildren with each others' families.

Shortly after Campbell was born, we got a package from one of the DOS ladies and one of the things in it was a doll. It was one of those "safe for babies" dolls that doesn't have any hard parts and rattles when you shake it. For a while, Campbell would look at it and she always smiled when I made it dance for her. But lately, she has really started to love it. I let her use it as her "transitional object" when she goes to sleep (and with it, she went to sleep all on her own last night- MAJOR victory for the baby who only wants to fall asleep while eating). When I went in to check on her, she was using one of the doll's feet as a pillow.

And here is a video to show that Dolly (no, she doesn't have a name, I ran out of clever names after I named all the animals on her bouncer. Ok, ok, the only one that was remotely clever anyway was Harry Elephante, but I digress) is not just for bedtime!

Flashback Friday

I absolutely cannot believe that this was almost a year ago. As I sit here and watch my almost 15 pound baby jump, laugh and shriek in her jumperoo (video coming soon!) my brain cannot even fathom that this was ever her. I remember that day and seeing her for the first time (before we knew she was Campbell, heck before we knew she was a she) and how amazing I thought that was. I had no idea what I was in for!

Only 4 months old and already a philanthropist

Campbell is a real do-gooder. Last Saturday, she participated in her first fundraiser, benefitting MD Anderson Cancer Center. A local photographer kindly volunteered her services to take pictures of the "little monsters" in their Halloween costumes for a donation to MD Anderson. As you may know, MD Anderson is an organization that is close to our hearts and our family LOVES Halloween, so how could we say no?

The party was a lot of fun. We got to see a lot of Campbell's friends (in costume, no less) and we just got to see the slideshow of all the cuties today. Campbell is near the end, blowing bubbles in her pumpkin costume (righr after the giraffe). The only problem is now I want to hire Lyndsay to come follow us around every day and document our lives. She is such a wonderful photographer, but I am certain that 24 hour coverage would be quite costly (and she might miss her family) :)

1/3 of a year

My baby is 4 months old. That is 1/3 of a year! I realize that you already know that, but it just makes her sound so old. How on Earth did it get to be October of 2009? The year is almost over! In some ways it seems like Campbell was just born but at the same time, I can't really remember what life was like before she was here. And can I just say how wonderful life is now she's in the world (to paraphrase Elton John)? : )

Campbell had her 4 month appointment on Tuesday. She is right on track with all of her milestones and she now weighs 14 lbs 13 oz (75th %ile) and is 24 3/4 inches (also 75th %ile). Her little head is still trucking along at 40 cm (25th %ile) and I know it's just chock full of brains. She did better with her shots, but she still cried. I, however, was tear free at this appointment!

These days, Campbell enjoys tripodding, playing in her new Jumperoo (that we got with the gift card from Aunt T!) and sticking everything that she can find into her mouth. I think it's pretty bad planning on the universe's part that the "baby sticking everything in her mouth" phase coincides with the "mommy losing so much hair she is certain she will wake up bald one morning" phase.

We are horrible parents and haven't done Campbell's official 4 month pictures yet, but Z did a "photo shoot" with her last week while I was out of town. So, I'll leave you with some favorites from that session.

This video is about a month old already, but it's cute so I had to show it. I was playing Peek-a-Boo with Campbell and she thought it was hilarious. It's long, but you get the point in the first minute or so. Also featured in this video: my hair parted in the shape of an "s" and the oven timer going off (and off and off and off).

Flashback Friday

It's late, but I just got back from New Orleans. Between that and ACL last weekend, I haven't had time to update, but I promise more entries next week (including a 4 month photo shoot and an entry about Campbell's first Halloween party/ Fundraiser which is tomorrow!)

But here is today's flashback. Exactly one year ago today I found out that we were expecting Campbell.

Flashback Friday!

In honor of A&M's big game against Arkansas at the new Cowboys Stadium, here is Campbell showing her Aggie spirit early on.
